Bay Springs Methodist
We do not have much history on Bay Springs Methodist. Below is what is found in the SGA Methodist Archives. If anyone has any additional history to add, please contact us at info@hrcga.org. Even though the Methodist history below states the church was formed in 1904, there are a good many graves in the cemetery prior to that. The church you see above is probably the 1907 church that was a successor sanctuary to the original.
The Bay Springs Church was organized in 1904 under the leadership of Rev. L. A. Snow and Rev. C. C. Hines. For the first few years services were held only on Sunday afternoons. Mrs. Charlie Hinson gave an acre of land for the church building. The first church was an unceiled building with glass windows; a woodburning heater sat in the center of the church and gas lanterns were used for lighting. In the middle twenties, the building was ceiled and painted. Later in the 1940s three Sunday School rooms were added.
