Mt. Olive

Mount Olive Church in Crisp County is a fascinating site, though we have little recorded history about it. Small congregations like this once dotted the rural landscape, serving as the heart of their communities—a place to gather, worship, celebrate, mourn, and share life in the country. In many cases, churches like Mount Olive also doubled as schoolhouses for African American students before public education was available to them.

Sites like this are essential to understanding the full picture of Georgia’s history. And while we may not yet know the complete story of Mount Olive, preserving its memory is important in the hope that more information will come to light. If you know anything about this church or the community it served, please share it in the comments below.
