Ambrose Christian

According to a local history submitted to HRC: Ambrose is a small town in Coffee County, founded in 1899 soon after the arrival of the AB&A Railroad. It was then that Dennis Vickers and J.J. Phillips donated the land to establish the town of Ambrose, Georgia. Today, Ambrose has a population of around 500 and is best known for its fertile farmland. Located 12 miles west of Douglas on the AB&A Railroad line, the town has continued to grow alongside the county.

On June 10, 1915, J.J. Holland donated land to the Trustees of the Alabama Christian Conference, and it was then that Ambrose Christian Church was founded. The church still retains many of its original features, including Georgia heart pine floors, original glass windows, and vintage light fixtures. Some of the oak pews are also original, and the sanctuary still holds its in-floor baptismal pool. The beadboard walls have been lovingly restored to their original beauty. Remarkably, Ambrose Christian Church has never owed a penny to the bank. From its founding to the present day, it has remained completely debt-free—a testament to the dedication and stewardship of its congregation.
