Benevolence Methodist
We do not have much history on Benevolence Methodist. The following information comes from the SGA Methodist Archives. If you have additional history to share, please contact us at info@hrcga.org.
The church’s roots date back about one hundred years, when a group that included Mr. and Mrs. Mason L. Davis and Mr. and Mrs. James W. Flanders organized a congregation known as Refuge in 1902, on land given by Mr. Davis. A new church was later built, and the name was changed to Benevolence. In 1915, the Conference Minutes list Chauncey and Benevolence as a charge in the McRae District, with Rev. B. F. West as pastor. By 1942, it was listed as an afternoon appointment with First Church, Eastman. In 1960, it was part of the Rhine-Chauncey Charge. In 1983, the ceiling was lowered and the exterior was painted. 1982 Membership: 43
